Michael A. Schell, 68, passed away November 19th, 2011 at his lake house that he loved in Ninevah, Indiana on Princes Lake from complications of leukemia that he had battled for over ten years. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana where he lived most of his life. Michael retired from the Indianapolis Star News at age 57 and then he enjoyed working at Avis Rental Car up to his passing. He also served as a volunteer firefighter in Boone County and Indianapolis Wayne Township for many years.
Michael was a devoted and incredible father to Sherri (Tony) Coffey and grandfather to his five grandchildren Bianca, Isaiah, Elijah, Cesilie, and Quintin, all of Floyds Knobs, Indiana. He loved his family and friends deeply and was always there with a helping hand. Michael enjoyed spending his time traveling and being outdoors, especially kayaking, hiking, mushroom hunting, salmon fishing and teaching his grandkids about nature. He was proud of the fact that he never paid full price for anything and he loved a good bargain.
My father celebrated life each and every day. He always encouraged my dreams of opening a child care center and was extremely excited about the plans for Kids Care Academy, but he passed before seeing it completed or opening. But we know he was the proud angel that brought us through this process to make it the success that it is today. We miss you everyday, Daddy.
I love you,
I’d like the memory of me
To be a happy one,
I’d like to leave an afterflow
Of smiles when day is gone.
I’d like to leave an echo
Whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times, and laughing times,
And bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve
To dry before the sun,
Of happy memories that I leave
When life is done.
